So the microphone on my headset died a couple days ago and I'm using a POS Logitech from Wal-Mart as an emergency replacement. Looking for suggestions for a new permanent replacement headset.

I have the Logitech G930 wireless, they are a great headset with a lot of range and you can program a key to talk while you are AFK.
I went for a Corsair gaming headset H1500, usb & 7.1, I can't fault them and the price was not overly expensive. possibly the best headset I ever owned. This may be discontinued and replaced by a newer model.
are you wanting a headset or something better than a headset.
can go wrong with this - https://www.amazon.com/Antlion-Audio...00R98JVVU?th=1
with a pair of legit headphones like this - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0011UB9CQ..._t1_B00193FT26
or these some of these - https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_st_r...rt=review-rank
you could even go with a desk top mic also they sell kits or could get like a blue yeti desktop mic also.

From what I can see they're still available, but they are very much out of my price range. They go for $325 on Newegg. At that price they should dispense blowjobs.
I don't have a lot of room to run a desktop mic, and I just want a headset that won't die after a year of me owning it. My last 2 headsets did this. They were from Sades, some Chinese company. Cheap as hell for the most part, but I guess you get what you pay for.are you wanting a headset or something better than a headset.
then you could get a pair of headphones build for actual sound quality and get the mod mic for talking.
I really enjoy the HyperX Cloud II. Very popular and comfortable headset with good sound and a good mic. Highly recommend
Any studio quality headphones will last you a lot longer and will give you a lot better sound quality than any "gaming" headsets. All those "Gaming" headsets are just a marketing trick to ripoff gamers.
A setup like this will give you a lot better quality for the money:
Studio headphones: https://www.amazon.com/AKG-240-Semi-...A2LXBKOLL3J3K6
Lavalier mic: https://www.amazon.com/Lavalier-Micr...ier+microphone
That's cheaper and much better than HyperX Cloud II "gaming" headsets: https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Gaming...+cloud+headset
DJ/studio headphones are the best way to go in my opinion. then you can upgrade by getting an amp for your studio quality headphones that can actually use them lol. they make mic booms for desk and stuff if space is an issue.

Nice setup! Yeah, I've been always using DJ heaphones since 2000 running all sound though external interface until I decided to try some gaming headsets back in 2015 and I did regret that decision. I went back straight to DJ headphones + external interface setup. Also, using software based equalizer for now but will buy a hardware based equalizer, which will let me fine tune any headphones.
Here is my current setup: https://youtu.be/rMKmiWzhm0Q?t=48s
I would also go for a separate mic, I have a blue Yeti at home which is kind of pricey but I use one of these when I'm gaming on the road, it sounds great and is well worth the $10.00.
