Agreed. I am just that person who likes to upgrade every gen. I can always cancel pre order if performance is lacking. I would be okay with 30%.

I'm hoping for improved scaling of SLI with this gen's new connector ;(

Anyone see that Tomshardware article about “just buy it” regarding the RTX series by their chief editor? Seriously stupid advice. Think I’m gonna avoid TH until they replace that guy. Tech forums and hardware reviewers are roasting him left and right for it.

If thats anything under a 3 slot card I wouldn't recommend it. My 1080ti sc2 was louder then I would like. Although it was smooth and not overwhelming I'd still have gone with a MSI gaming, Strix, or EVGA FTW model with triple slot coolers.

Is the 2080TI really all the hype it’s meant to be? I mean is ray tracing really going to be in the industry soon enough that the card will be worth it?

    I’m just curious.

Most likely no. Not for gamers anyway. For extreme content creators doing CGI and rendering, yes, this will be a huge improvement from what they have now. For instance, there was a thread posted today on Reddit about how a guy with a GTX 980 rendered a 4 second clip with ray tracing and it took him 16 hours. Someone did the math in the thread. To maintain 60FPS with ray tracing based on how long it took this guy to render the clip, Turing would have to be 30,596X (YES, TIMES) faster than the OP's GTX 980. This technology is going to take time to mature and be to where we want it to be EVEN IF it lives up to the hype.

I'd expect 2-3 years before we really see integration in video games. BF5 can only run at 30FPS in "real time" with these cards. Keep that in mind. When better driver support comes out and we start seeing more game developers jump on board with this, then the performance will be better. But for now, no. Plus there are only 3 games out right now that support ray tracing. I'm not going to spend $1k on a video card unless it's a significant improvement over what I have now for all of the other games I play. I could care less about having more realistic lighting in the fast-paced games I play. Sure it will look good, but at the end of the day, it already looks good. I play on a 2k high refresh rate monitor. Playing at 60FPS would be a gigantic step backward for me, not to mention 30, even if it looks better.

That and they didn't show ANY real world performance benchmarks at the conference. Games will not benefit from machine-learning and what not. At least, not for the foreseeable future. The tech they showcased is more useful to high-end content creators that would benefit from ray-tracing like creating renders and CGI effects. Machine learning is 100% useless to the average consumer/gamer.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we see about a 20-25% bump in performance in the games we play now.

The thing is that many forget to look beyond just the Ray Tracing. Turing is not just all about Ray Tracing. While that is the newest technology that will change gaming in the future there are other things that Turing architecture has to offer. For example Tensor cores that we saw earlier on Titan V card, which is a monster card. Based on leaked benchmarks for Ashes of the Singularity the RTX 2080 beats the Titan V. If RTX 2080 can beat Titan V in Ashes of the Singularity while there are no optimized drivers out there then I believe we can expect some great performance boost even in none RTX games.

DLSS is also a huge thing that will improve how games run. NVIDIA already offered all game developers to upgrade their game code for FREE with DLSS feature. I bet that there should be patches coming out for many games that we play. If the DLSS is implement in most games we play then the performance increase will be enormous.

Most importantly, if you look at Turing GPU architecture then you will notice that it has 5 cores that can do multitasking much more easier than Pascal architecture. I'm expecting to see performance boost 50% - 150% based on what features the game will have.

I still want to see benchmarks but based on what I've read about the Turing architecture I believe the performance boost will be good. I was expecting a great performance boost from Pascal and I gained 50% - 70% performance boost upgrading from GTX 970 to GTX 1070.

This is the best demo showcasing it I've seen, 6:20 is stellar with the mirrors.

kinda like each generation of iphones.

I going to wait for the 10xx to come down in price, not willing to spend top $ on this hobby, I would rather go on vacation, or buy more beer!

Prices are already down on 10xx series. I doubt they will be any lower. Pre-order prices are obviously high on purpose. It has been before like that. It's very simple rule - retailers need to get rid of the old gen GPU stocks in their shelves. So, once they get rid of the stocks for old gen GPU's and the NDA passes on the 20xx series, wait for a couple of weeks and prices will drop to normal. Same thing was with 10xx series when it got released. I got my GTX 1070 about 3 weeks later after it got released for only $30 above the MSRP. The pre-order price was insane back then. LOL!

    I think he meant MSRP.

Not many people want to spend $700 USD after taxes for technology that isn’t fully implemented yet (and no way of telling WHEN it will be implemented at over 60fps).

Word on the street is that NVIDIA is dumping excess stock on GPU retailers (Asus being one of them) for them to get rid of. Not sure of the details on this but it’s a large sum. NVIDIA didn’t predict the mining market crashing so they have a LOT of 10 series GPU’s.

My guess is that once the 20xx cards come in full force, the retailers with the leftover 10 series stock are going to be running a lot of promos on top of the lower price because most people will want the 20 series.

That's what I meant, that 10xx are already low and can be bought at MSRP. I doubt they will go even lower. For example, you can find GTX 1080 Ti as low as $670, which is below MSRP or GTX 1080 for $499, which is about $100 below the MSRP. With that said, it brings back to what I said, retailers are trying to get rid of the 10xx series stock, thus why pre-order prices for 20xx are so high. Wait for a few weeks after NDA and you will get 20xx series much cheaper than the pre-order price...

I think this has more to do with the 20xx being low stock than anything. They’re sold out a lot. NVIDIA and every other manufacturer stagger releases to create demand.

This happens every big release. The first few preorders go fine then people buy the rest up and resell them at higher prices. It also happens with new CPU’s.

Regardless, yes, once things stabilize and supply meets demand, the prices will also stabilize AROUND msrp. GPU manufacturers only make ~10% gross profit off of GPU’s. In many cases it’s lower. There has also been talk of Amazon introducing more taxes, specifically for PC hardware, to be sold through them. If that happens the price of PC components in general may go up since Amazon is the biggest retailer right now.

Yes! I very well remember Pascal release and how people would stand in line on the first day at the store and how stores would limit 1 card per person. A few weeks later everyone calmed down and prices normalized.

Amazon isn't introducing taxes... the United States passed new import taxes from China in July that take effect on September 6th. It's pretty much a 15-25% tax on all computer components made in China specifically graphics cards, motherboards, power supplies and cases that are made in China and then imported to the United States. Retailers and suppliers wanted Amazon to let them list their current lineups at a higher price to reflect the new taxes and Amazon told them no and they would have to relist and re sku any price increases.
