In the past 4 years I have seen the game go through many changes and updates. We have gone from a game where activities included exploring a 1:1 scale of the Milky Way Galaxy, engaging in ship to ship combat and mining an asteroid belt for valuable materials. To today, where we can land on planets to prospect materials and engineer our ships to be more formidable. We also can explore the ruins of an ancient civilization and fight a formidable alien race that threatens to destroy life in the galaxy as we know it. These are just a few of the many things that are available to you as a Commander charting your own path in the galaxy. And if you're so inclined, you can help support AOD's effort to expand our Player Faction within the Galaxy. December will see an exciting update that will allow players to buy Fleet Carriers that can help you move your ships around the galaxy more effectively, and that's just one of its uses. Next year it is rumored that we will be getting a paid update that will include FPS combat against a formidable alien race. This is an exciting time to pick up Elite Dangerous and our veteran members would love to help you on your journey to becoming an Elite Pilot!

Hands down this game is large volumes of awesome. Where else can you say you fly a space ship in a life size model of our galaxy. There is so much to do and it only gets better with each update. The ED division has some the most helpful and engaging people in it. At this price it's an absolute steal. Come join us in claiming a piece of the galaxy in the name of AOD!

We at the ED Division thrive on helping others, so like Setheist said don't feel intimidated by picking up the game so late, with a little help you can catch up in no time. I myself have only been playing this game since February and if i was not so addicted to spreading the influence of AOD across our galaxy i would easily be triple Elite already!

Some people say elite is a mile wide and an inch deep... those people have never flown with us! Elite is at its best with a bunch of people all working together, flying together, and blowing up together. Just about everyone in the division here knows enough about something that together we know just about everything, and we seriously love teaching people about this truly gargantuan game. Seriously, pick it up and give us a shout. You might just get trampled with people wanting to fly with you. There isn't another game out there quite like Elite, trust me, I've played most all of them.

I bought Elite Dangerous almost two years ago, but never did take the time to learn it and give it a whirl, so I was thinking about doing that this weekend. Do I need to buy any DLC or new "chapter"?

I'd love to join up with other AOD and fly around... I need to re-do the training first though :)

You don't have to buy Horizons (the optional DLC) but I would very much encourage it. As you'll have the ability to do many things that are unavailable in the base game. And the best part is that DLC is on sale right now!

I was always into this game just never wanted to spend the money required. I wish I had more time, I bought No Mans sky but just found it took too much time.
