    Default Upgrade CPU advice

I have been doing some research(understatement) and have fond with my Dell mobo that i can upgrade my cpu to a i7 4790k
    Currently i have a i5 4570 and can easily get a i7 4790 for under $100 AUD
    Also have 16gb ddr3 ram.
WOuld the upgrade keep the pc happy for another 1-3 years?

Both have 4 cores but the i7 has 8 threads vs the 4 threads of the i5. So you would be doubling your threads.

What GPU do you have? The i7 is more powerful and faster than the i5 so you need to make sure you're not going to create a bottleneck with the upgrade.

I have a 4790k and it still works beautifully. Just upgraded to a 1660 Super from a GTX 770.

Of course it depends on what you're trying to use it for, but I'd say that for about $100, that'd be a substantial upgrade! However, your hardware is becoming dated, so I'd say look for a system replacement in the next 2 years after the processor upgrade.
For the past seven years, I have done nothing but travel around the world getting shot up, locked up, blown up... and all I have to show for it are a couple empty rolls of duct tape.

I have an I7-8700K overclocked to 4.8Ghz at 3.25V, no complaints whatsoever!

Finding a i7 4770/4970 is proving to be difficult for under $100. Watching Ebay etc. I can get them for $2-300 AUD, but then that becomes a waste of time and money.
Currently the new Ryzen 3 3300x is looking at being a total beast of a cpu(single core performance is very impressive)
Pair that with some tasty ram-GSkill Trident 3200mhz
and either a B450 or the new B550(depending on prices)
    And a Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 650w
    and I'm home and hosed.
