Yay! Just got in the beta. Anyone else try Starlink?
Still could be mid year before it actually ships they said.

how much does it cost?
It's $500 to purchase and $99/mo
It's a terrible replacement for cable or fiber but it's necessary in remote areas where I spend a fair amount of time. Currently on Hughes Net which is awful and you can't game at all.
Would it be unreasonable to think you could mount it to a truck bed or truck top. So that when you travel or go out into the wilderness you could use it?
Not right now. No. Unfortunately Starlink service is geo locked via the address you used when you signed up for it. People have had some luck though. I watched a video where one guy drove about 45 minutes out to the middle of nowhere and demonstrated the service.
I'm actually really impressed with how well the system performs during inclement weather. There are youtube videos of people playing counterstrike during a snow storm or blizzard and maintaining a 80ms ping.
LEO vs HEO,
Hughes net and other primary sat providers use High Earth Orbits or LaGrange Points for their comm sats
putting them way further away so any interference exasperates a connection that has a minimum turn around time of 350 ms. (usually more like 500 or 600)
Star Link is low earth orbit, so signal is stronger as well as travel distances that much closer.
put this another way, HEO is minimum distance of about 22,000 miles or 36,500 KM above the earth.
Start Link being Leo means the sats are only about 1200 miles or 2000 km away,
factor of 10 closer.
im going to need this at my cabin.
What are your Speeds and Pings? Pls Post.
