Default The graphics card and chip shortage is nuts

I just sold my used Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti FE for more than I paid for it brand new.

This was a card that released four years ago and I bought three years ago for around $699 direct from NVidia.

Even after shipping and fees on eBay I got over $700 on an auction that I started at $360.

Even three years ago it took me months to find one.

I'd like to get one of the Ryzen 9 5900x CPUs but that's not happening right now.

    This is nuts!!

Tell me about it, i sold my GTX 1080 (non-ti) for 350$.

I went and bought pre built just to get a 3080 and 5800x. Switched around parts and sold what I didn't use/want, SO glad I went that route.

I did the exact same thing but they cancelled my order and said they couldn't fulfill it. LOL! I got lucky at least and nabbed a FE 30 series though.

Lucky on the FE 30. I'm still trying for a FE 3080. I did get a 3070 Strix for the same as a FE 3080.

Once I get that FE, I'll be selling off the 3070.

Where you buying the prebuilts at? Thus far every site I've gone to has rather low quality cards.

Not that I care about the news specifically, but a few days ago I read about a rumor that Apple has a problem with suppliers for their macbooks and ipads.

"US tech giant's headaches suggest even worse chip shortages lie ahead"

This is likely a LCD panels shortage (or LCD controllers). Speaking of which. I don't know about you. But the monitor that I bought for 600 dollars three years ago is now selling for more than a thousand.

Processors that are two years old are more expensive now than they were 18 months ago.

The prices of the cards that ARE available are wack too. And people are buying them, so why shouldn't wouldn't they.

This is really bad of course if-like me- you're looking to make a change in hardware. I have decided to give myself the go-ahead for a new motherboard/cpu/memory but there is no way in hell I'm getting a gpu now. I'll see where the upgrade takes me.

If it allows me to play things more smoothly I may leave the purchase of a new GPU for next year.

I have been trying to snag a 3080 FE from day 1 and haven't had any luck. These damn bots buy up everything once it's in stock -_-.

Yeah there's a waiting list on iPads and you can't walk into a store most places and just buy them

Nvidia expects GPU shortage to continue 'for much of this year' https://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-graph...d-supply-2021/

Both Nvidia and AMD are way behind. Who here is old enough to remember when there were more than 2 graphics chip OEM's. Where's Cirrus Logic or 3dfx when you need them? Now I feel OLD :(

    QUESTION:

So I went ahead and started ordering /receiving high-end parts for a new pc: x570 motherboard, 32GB 3200 CL15 ram and 5900x cpu. I have an old RX 580 graphics card I may use for a little bit until something better comes along. Are there any graphics cards in the 150 - 250 dollar range that blow the RX 580 out of the water?

There are no graphics cards in the 150-250 dollar range. Period. RX580s are retailing new for 450 dollars *when they're in stock*. The pricing and inventory today is absolutely brutal. I was in the exact same boat; I got a fresh x570 and 5900x and ran my 980ti in it until I could get ahold of a 3xxx series.

I was fractions of a second late on getting a 3080 FE in the last stock drop. This is annoying and yet, we have a new Ti series coming. Why release another series when you can't meet demand?

I hope the LHR cards will help a bit but I doubt it will take long for someone to figure a way around it and the miners will suck up all the stock again.

Had to opt for a pre-build to get my 3070. Needed an upgrade all round but getting the 3070 was a bonus. Currys-Pc World has pre-builts.

Sell your 580, they go for 400$ on eBay. And buy a 1070. They go for 400 - 450 on eBay

Actually yeah Im seeing 580 go locally for 495 euro (used for gaming, not mining) so pretty sure I can sell mine easy for 450 euro.
    Thanks for the tip
