Default Helping a friend with his Old PC

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone could help me, my friend has a HP Pavilion 500 Pc series computer, in which he uses to play mostly a game called Planeside 2, I was thinking for his birthday that I would try and upgrade some components in his computer since he is always complaining about his fps.
He states he gets between 20-50 fps while playing the game, but overall its incredibly poor "22 fps", I want to help him but I don't know much about computers and if help is even possible for him. I really appreciate any advice I can get.

His computer specs can be found here: https://support.hp.com/ie-en/document/c04341331
Planetside 2 minimum and recommended requirements:
    MINIMUM:
OS: 64-bit Windows 7 or later
    Processor:: Core i5-4460 or better
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 480 or better
    Memory: 6 GB RAM (64-bit)
Hard Drive: 20 GB HD space
    DirectX®: 11.0
    Sound:DirectX compatible Sound Card
    Other Requirements:Broadband Internet connection
    RECOMMENDED:
    OS:64-bit Windows 7 or later
    Processor:Intel i5 6600K or higher / AMD Ryzen 5 1600 or higher
    Graphics:Nvidia GeForce 960 or higher / AMD R9 280X or higher
    Memory:8 GB RAM
    Hard Drive:20 GB HD space
    DirectX®:11.0
    Sound:DirectX compatible Sound Card
    Other Requirements:Broadband Internet connection

    My questions are as follows:
    1) Is it possible to help him?
    2) If so what components should I upgrade for him?
    3) What components in your opinion will work for the make of this pc?
    4) Can a 200 euro budget upgrade help his fps issue?

This is a surprise for him, I feel bad for him, and honestly want to give him the biggest surprise of his life, I know I should do the simple thing and buy him a brand new pc but that's obviously a bit too expensive for me at the moment, so If their is any suggestions that will help me achieve him getting more fps for another little while till he invests into an actual gaming pc I would be absolutely grateful.

I do feel like this is a very large task to achieve, but I do appreciate any advice.

Thank you for those who read this article, I am sorry for I gave you a headache, I really love this community, we love this community, and I have made so many beautiful memories being a part of this community, I love you all from the bottom of my little heart, from Planet!

    It's April first... I mean...

I'm not certain of the computers capabilities without being there myself.

I has an external power supply of 180w. I don't know if it could handle a new GPU.

You're best bet is to save up and buy a whole new computer.

You could probably strip that game down to it's bare lowest settings and push 30fps.

If you want to do that in the mean time google up some Planetside 2 configs.

    GeForce GTX 1650
    Recommended Power Supply
    300 Watts

That computer is a piece of shit. I mean, do some odd jobs, make some money.

Have your Mom get you a new computer.

    Full Replace:
So, getting a full replacement for under 200 might be a challenge even though that computer is about 8 years old.
I'd suggest ebay or maybe a local shop, craigslist, or even a phone app.
Really, something with a dedicated graphics card, a CPU around the same power of an I5, and most importantly, a solid state dive would be all you're shooting for.

Also, I'm not a fan of laptops for gaming. Mostly for cooling reasons.
    Part upgrade:
I'd probably look to replace his hard disk drive, with a solid state. I'd recommend installing windows on the new SSD, and keeping the current one for data storage (and a backup while you make sure everything works with the new drive).
The difference between HDD and SSD is quite massive IMO, and might give you a nice min/max in performance.
Maybe in the 250-500 gig storage range to get some games on there as well.

For other parts, you could try using the PC part picker website and plugging in the specs to make sure the new hardware is compatible.
If I could recommend another part to upgrade after the SSD, might be the processor (depending on what the MOBO can handle).

And as Toms said, turning down the graphic quality in the game might help as well as a hold over.

Try looking at Ali Express/Ebay for some e5-26X xeons and x99 mobo which I believe you will be OK with, then just the GPU is the challenge.

I mean, as temporary. Getting an A10 from the list of "Processor Upgrade Information" list, and a cheap Graphics card, will do wonders for the short term. And perhaps a 2x4GB or 2x8GB kit of DDR3 (1333Mhz - 1800Mhz) will also really help the responsiveness of the entire system.
Other than that, a full replacement is recommended for long term, and the ability to play more modern games.

So everything he sad (AOD_StaticGrazer-forgot the link) XD. i say get a Cpu like AMD Ryzen 5 2400G or better and go from there that Cpu wil run most games at like 60fps on low. Get it on like ebay or something perhaps a older gaming pc with no extrenal graphics card.

RX 550 or a 1030 will do it. Just stick it in, no cables required.
    I use to play PlanetSide 2 with a i7 3770 without a GPU and get around 40fps .
According to userbenchmark a 550 is 173% faster than integrated Skylake GPU.
    Unfortunately they're overpriced as hell. 200$ for a 550... Wow that's a 1060 MSRP

Hi, I think all the specs you have provided are fine except the hard drive. You should go with SSDs because they provide lightning-fast data transfer speed as compared to traditional storage. here is the source

Hi Ali, I have purchased an Intel Core i3 processor on the advice of my friend. And I'm looking for a decent motherboard to pair it with. Could you please recommend me a motherboard from a reputable brand, so I can go and purchase it for my gaming PC. Thanks
