CPU upgrade suggestions?

So, I'm currently running a i5-6600K and a GTX 1080
And i'm kinda getting tired of always running 100% CPU and <40% GPU utilisation (kinda regretting thinking back then 4 threads would be totally enough:P)
I definitely don't have the budget for upgrading my gpu, and I'm not really worried about being GPU limited, that's gonna have to be a given.
What I'm looking for is an upgrade to CPU Motherboard and Ram so my GPU actually has to do some work and maybe some future proofing without breaking the bank

TL;DR best bank for your buck CPU to go with my 1080 and hopefully last a good while even when I ever manage to get a new GPU

If you live near a MicroCenter, they constantly have CPU+MOBO bundles for $150-$300, 16GB-32GB RAM kits at 3200MHz & 3600MHz are priced on sale about $50-$90, respectively. I am working right now, but in a bit I can share some specific deals for you.

It's hard to give a good suggestion based on the number of variables like what you're willing to spend, how big of a performance increase you're looking for, cost to performance and what games you are playing but I will say I love my 8700k that I've had since they came out. A short comparison video from back when they came out shows a 20 to 30 fps increase in games when going from a 6600k to an 8700k while using a 1080. This was in 1080p which I assume you're playing in based on the GPU usage. I'm not sure if you would see the same increase in newer games but if so it could be a small but cheap upgrade if you plan to sell your 6600k and motherboard. For D2 specifically you probably won't see too much of a performance increase depending on what you go with. With the 8700k and a 2080Ti I don't get nearly as much performance in D2 as I do in other games. I get lower than usual GPU usage in D2 while playing on a 1440p 240Hz monitor. Some blame the bloated old engine but all I know is all of my other games perform much better.

Best bang for buck is b660 motherboard + intel 12100 or 12400 (I'd choose 12400). Can probably use your current ram as well if it's a 16gb kit.

yeah, i know my question is pretty vague:P
I do still need to figure out my exact budget, mostly looking for some ideas before i do some research myself^^
