    Default Nothing on Moniter

    Hi all

Well I was on the comp and it just shut down, and on restart it went into lower resolution settings. I could not get it to find any higher settings thought graphics card went bad. I got a Radeon R7850 UltraOC Edition card and a Cooler master i700W power supply. Installed it all today after work and still no picture. Anyone have any idea's on what the issue could be?? Oh I'm not to tech savvy but I can change parts no problem and I can follow instructions. Well kinda lol.

    Thanks for any help

first thing that came to my mind is what tank effect said, double check and make sure it is plugged into the GPU (graphics card)

It happened before the new parts. I thought my card went bad so I got a new one and a bigger psu. I have it plugged into the card, I even checked the monitor by plugging it into the wife comp.

hmmm, unplug the graphic card and connect it again, maybe some pin didnt go correctly.
If this doesnt work, unplug your ram and put it again on your mobo and power up your computer again.

edit: make sure you dont have anything connected to the tower, external hard drives, usb etc

By no picture , does you lose video when the OS is booting up, or does the bios also not display anything?

So you got a new video card and power supply, hooked it all up and connected the power and it's doing the same as before? Any particular pattern of beeps when you power the system on?

I had 1 long and 3 short beeps. I removed and replaced the Graphics card and restarted no beeps but still no pic. I'm beginning to suspect the mother board is there anyway I could test this?

ok you may have some pci-e slot drop dead(try putting your card in another slot if there is any)
can you tell us what mobo you have???Do you know what pci-e slots your mobo has?? (x8 x16???)
Your grapcic card spec says you need a x16 on your mobo but i dont think an x8 would be a problem, just to eliminate this possibility.

edit:1 long 3 short in some mobo means RAM faillure, but you said that after reputting the gpu solved that,i guess that excludes this one.

sorry for the 2nd post in a row,but 5 min have passed and i want to give as much info i can to troubleshoot the problem.

AMD cards do not support old versions of pci-e(v1.1,they do for the v2.1),so we must see the version of your pcie slot of your mobo to determine the error here(if this is the error).

    we found the problem m8,
the problem lies in your mobo,it has 2 pcie x16 slots v1.1 and your card is pcie v3.0(compatible down to v2.1).

Give it a shot at the other slot of your mobo but it will surpise me if it works.

Well I removed and replaced the memory sticks and moved the graphics card to the other slot got no pic and the 1 long and 3 short beeps are back. So I need a better mobo then.

Well can I swap it out for this set up AMD FX-8350 Vishera 4.0GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor FD8350FRHKBOX and a ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
and have it work with my existing parts??

well that makes sense,1 long 3 shorts means at your motherboard problem with the graphic card(power shortage/memory problem) along with the v1 its definetely the first.

ok,mobo, graphics, and cpu are fine,in fact those 3 are good combination.
you will need new RAM,right now you have ddr2,you need ddr3(no compatibility)
your hard drive will work(mobo sata3-HD sata1 compatibility, propably better speed than you have now but not its max potential)
your tower is ok from dimensions size as i understand
But i must admit that im not entirely sure about the watts thought, have to search it a little(thats why it took me so long to respond)

Well here's what I'm going with

ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

    AMD FX-8350 Vishera 4.0GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor

    G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory

CORSAIR Hydro Series H80i High Performance Water/Liquid CPU Cooler. 120mm

    Radeon R7850 Ultra OC Edition PCI 3.0 1GB DDR5

So far I've got the ram a bit each payday. Damn I hate waiting.
If you see a flaw in this plan please let me know.

    Thanks
    Kevin (kev350)
