Icon5 Escort Duties & Best Russian/Japanese Premium Planes To Buy

Hi all and Merry Christmas! I am posting this on Christmas Eve and I hope that I am posting this up in the right place (sorry if I'm not!), but I wanted to ask what would be the best tactics for escort duties? When I play with fellow AOD members who choose to fly as bombers, I fly escort fighters to protect them. It's quiet most times, but rewarding when I shoot down a careless enemy pilot who chooses to attack a bomber under my protection. What would be the best fighters for escort duties and what are some good tactics for escort combat?

My second question has to do with Premium aircraft for the Japanese and the Russians. What would be, based on your recommendations and experiences, the best aircraft to buy and save up for? I'm good with bombers (dive bombers mostly and heavy bombers, but only for stationary targets) and fighters, (mostly on ground targets and bomber killing missions). Any premium aircraft fit for escort duties would be a good suggestion as well.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my message and hope that it made sense and was not too confusing, and thanks also for commenting and replying to it. Keep flying high my fellow members and may you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

    Sincerely,

    New AOD member,

Escorting bombers is a difficult job in War Thunder. To do it right the bomber needs to start at altitude, and climb away from battle. The escort needs to climb away from battle. At some point the Fighter will be above the bomber, and ready to escort it.

First thing's first... Bombing is a very dangerous job, and a lot of bombers die. And even if it can be very profitable, 3/4 times the bomber isn't going to make it.

But hopefully by climbing, both the bomber and the fighter, you allow all the riff-raff to dive to the ground.

The escort needs to intercept any fighters headed for the bomber. The moment the enemy fighter dies, or breaks off, or is damaged enough to go away, you need to head back to escorting the bomber. You are never to chase the enemies away from the bomber.

As for premium aircraft, I'll be getting the Russian P-63A-5 soon.

The jap premium Reison Ko, it is an excellent plane for anything, but bomber hunting or escort of fast bombers. It is just another Zero, but with an awesome reward bonus.

Not to say it isn't capable of killing bombers, the fragmentation rounds all of the jap cannons use is insanely deadly against pilots. SO if you can slash attack at cockpit you will usually get a kill first past, second if not. Just don't sit behind a bomber. In 1.37 the japs burn thermite. Finally.

The jap premium 190 is an excellent plane. It handles the same as the German 190 A, on the carrier maps it airspawns making it great for air cover for bombers since it can easily climb above them.. On the few maps the japs have a runway to spawn on. See dane's advice above.

The russian premium PE and PO premium bombers are pretty good. Excellant damage resistance, great handling (for a bomber) decent gunners. and pretty fast.

p63 and p40 are both escellent russian premiums

I wanted to thank those of you had commented on my thread and for your wonderful ideas. The Russian P-40 is a good plane, I've test flown it, and it seems ideally suited to high-level work for escorts and bomber killing duties. The Russian P-39 Aircobra and P-63 Kindcobra are excellent planes from what I've seen so far, and they seem ideally suited to attacking lone stragglers, bomber killing and bomber escort defense missions. The Japanese 190 is a good choice and I thank AOD_BlankWindow for the suggestion, and AOD_Danneskjold for the Kingcobra suggestion as well. The Japanese 109 would be a good choice too as well I personally think, and any of the Russian premium bombers/heavy fighters I would gladly welcome with open arms into my aerial arsenal. Thanks everyone the suggestions, and if you any more suggestions, please do tell and don't hesitate to post them up on this forum! :D.

I bought a bunch of premium planes, but unfortunately haven't had the time to fly them all that much. The BTD is a good one. Pretty fun to fly as an attacker. The P-63A-5 Russian is pretty good, but I haven't flown it that much.

The one plane I've flown a lot, however, is the Mustang Mark 1A. The British Mustang with 4 hispanos. That is a fun ride. Not that fast, but it has decent climb rate, stunning maneuverability, amazing dive speeds, great energy retention, bad acceleration and horrid performance above 4.5k meters. Plus it comes with near 10 skins, some of which are cool (I'm currently sporting Princess Elizabeth skin).

I've test flown the BTD, it's a good carrier attack plane, ideally suited for strafing tanks or ships ranging from a destroyer downwards. The Russian Kingcobra is said to be preferred and well-loved by the Russians when it was flown. I've seen it only a couple of times, but it's got a nasty bite and is surprisingly agile.

I've test flown the Mustang mk 1A, and she is a great airplane. The early Mustangs were nice looking airplanes in my opinion and I prefer their looks over the later versions sort of. Equipped with the Allison engine, it was alright for an airplane, but it still got the job down. It sounds like from your commentary on it Danneskjold that it would be great in avoiding enemy fighters pursuing it and could easily lose enemies by diving quickly then heading for home. It also sounds like it is better at lower altitudes and would be great weaving in and out of low-lying obstacles, and make a pursuing enemy pilot's job very miserable! I've seen some of the skins, two of which are RCAF, and they are very lovely indeed. Do other premium aircraft have such a wide variety of colours available? Pardon my asking by the way. Also, the 414 Squadron colour (one of two of the RCAF Mustang skins) is also coincidentally, the same squadron my late grandfather served in during the Cold War, as an aerial interceptor for the RCAF in the Avro CF-100 Canucks. A great man he was.
