It is an effort to retake the lost human planets from the Vanduul near the end of the beta. From what I hear, a large number of players are all going to be rushing Vanduul space. This even has CIG's blessing. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4K--rWx8cdA&noredirect=1). Even if we dont fight, the large number of battles would present a massive salvage oppertunity. (assuming progress doesnt get wipped after beta ends)

This is going to be absolutely awesome, I'm definitely in. They've said that there will likely be no wipe after the final beta test, going to full release. But still, it will be a moment to remember =)

While this sounds like it could be a lot of fun, I don't see it ending nearly as well as everyone seems to hope it will.

Trying to get EVERYONE into the same star system will probably put quite the stress on the instancing system. I foresee system crashes.

Assuming the assembly stage went well, I don't think we can just clear out an entire system of Vanduul. It sounds like that's the sort of thing that can only be accomplished by Dev intervention, so best-case scenario would likely just end with players "spawn camping" the Vanduul until we all get bored.

On top of which, my understanding of hull insurance is that you purchase insurance to cover you at certain "tiers" of danger. Hence, an area of space classified as "Tier 1" is considered the most safe and will be covered by the most basic of insurance, whereas a "Tier 5" area is extremely dangerous and no sane insurance company would cover you for it. I'm willing to bet flying straight into the hornet's nest qualifies as "Tier 5" and people are going to be losing ships.

Probably worth a shot, though. Just to see what happens.

I suspect that what is basically a glorious suicide mission would fall under the more "reckless" category resulting in a longer turnaround time. If you don't want to lose/damage your ship I'm sure there will be plenty of gunner/boarding opportunities.

Taking part wouldn't necessarily be in our best interest.

Let's consider what we know:
-Insurance WOULD cover incursions into Vanduul space
-There will be NO wipe after Beta
-This is largely a suicide mission

Now, here are the Pro's and Con's:
Pros:
+Combat experience
+Make connections with other organizations
Cons:
-Lose any uninsured ships
-Lose a lot of money on replacing insured ships
-Probably get invaded by opportunistic organizations not taking part

Personally, I can't see much good coming out of us fighting in Pitchfork. However, we could stand to profit from it VERY greatly if we play our cards right. Here's how I suggest we handle things:
-Send whoever is willing to salvage the wrecks of the battles. Could probably make a lot of money/tech/however the system works.
-Make sure we don't get invaded.
-Invade our biggest rivals (not friends) who are going.

I agree with this assessment. I think the biggest opportunities lie in salvage. Some general discussions are needed on combat with other clans. We'd need reliable intel on numbers, ships, strength etc. prior to ambushing.

I agree as well but our raids would have to be fast and in force. And if people do happen to get a system and some scythe facilities then we could get them as well. So win win situation

I think the devs said we couldn't capture vanduul facilities. However I wouldn't mind a Vanduul cap ship and some fighters...
