    Default Outside of gaming activities

I've been a bit of a gaming rut recently, not managed to find a game to really hold my attention be it with a division or otherwise.

So, in the meantime I've been doing other things to fill that void and I'm curious what the rest of you do when the gaming becomes less enjoyable?

I like reading a good sci-fi book, working on my house/bike/car, or messing with my recent hobby of 3d printing.

Tbh I sometimes find myself just staring at the computer screen looking at random things [mainly Facebook and the Chive] and being the perfect click-bait on stupid stuff that catches my eye. Or Netflix.

I have also started reading "The Last Kingdom" series by Bernard Cromwell. I do enjoy Roman military novels as well [hence the name].

Edx.com is a good one. I've taken some free classes from them for the heck of it. I have been super busy with work recently, working at least 5 days a week 12 hours a day, and traveling the world with the job. When I'm not working I'm playing video games or riding mountain bikes.

If you're looking for a book I find older sci-fi is time tested; so series like the Hyperion Cantos, and Larry Nivens tales of the known universe are must reads.

If you want to work a bit more with 3-d printing and that area of "making" hobbies, I would recommend to try making props from games. I find paying attention to details in a game can help it grab interest again.

I have a lot of books I haven't read yet so I just start on those when I'm in a gaming rut (like right now)... current series I'm on is "Dorothy Must Die" and it's a pretty interesting (and dark) twist on "The Wizard of Oz."

I've been woodworking and leatherworking recently. Leatherworking in particular is not that expensive to start.

Outside of video games, my hobbies include board/card games, watching anime, and reading info dumps of varying topics for fun. (often on technology, politics, or military strategy and hardware).
One thing that might help keeps things interesting is to find a couple board/card games or local coop video games to play on occasion with friends. This both gives a hobby and gives a reason/excuse to socialize.

A book that I always will recommend is Guns Germs and Steel, its a book that looks at the reasons why Europeans were the ones who became the major powers in the world and stuff like that, it's not hyperbolic and the reasons put forward make sense. Though it is a historical book and not a syfi book.

Personally, I'd recommend checking out tabletop card games (personally i prefer magic: the gathering). It can scratch that same competitive itch that gaming does for some people while providing a different experience, or if that's not your thing there are plenty of people who play it casually and you could just have fun with it
