so i have been out of the photo editing for quite some time now, I was just wondering what you guys use/ recommend here on the form. I have a lot of Photoshop cs2 exp and some adobe illustrator, not sure if getting cs6 or something thing like that would be worth it. any and all advice appreciated as always

I currently use photoshop CC, but it is very similar to CS 6.

Photoshop CS6 largely replaces the need for illustrator for many basic functions, and it also provides far better camera raw support with a better image processor in order to get better detail from raw images, it also adds hardware acceleration for many tools)

I mainly use it for processing and retouching raw images, and making signature pictures when needed, in addition to other random stuff.

If you need a large collection of Raw images to process, this site has a decent amount of them http://www.reddit.com/r/PostprocessingClub/

It all depends on what editing you like to do, for professional work, you only upgrade when a program improves something specifically in your workflow. (Many people are finding workarounds for the DRM in photoshop CC because the DRM causes many problems, e.g., if their servers go down , then your software can become crippled, especially if it randomly decides that you are a thief and it needs to verify your license. (e.g., an outage a few weeks ago causes many issues for users of the creative cloud)

For me I mainly use it because I work with a lot of raw images and need to support cameras ranging from the D3300 and t5i, all the way up to the Nikon D4s and canon 1Dx

If you can work with CS6, then I highly recommend that.
