    Default Good movies for BoomBoomStick

Roight! Movies... Aircraft... Beer... Snack... Mix the last ones with these movies:

Battle of Britain - a must see from 1969!
Flight of the Intruder - really good Vietnam flight movie, A6 Intruders..
Pearl Harbor - atleast decent flight scenes (yeah!)..
The first of the few - great WW2 film about the Spitfire, really good. With David Niven.
The Tuskegee airmen - dat black guy from Matrix and some pals in P-51s. Good HBO production.
The Dam Busters - classic! Makes you wanna go for that dam on Alpine Meadows! ;)
633 Squadron - Mossies and cool music, not a bad one even if a bit cheesy..
Air Force - 1943 movie about a B-17, pretty cool! Lots of action and evil Japs..
Dark Blue World - good Czech one with some outtakes from Battle of Britain and some new footage.
First Light - Geoffrey Wellum, a BoB-vet´s memoir (or part of). Outtakes from BoB and some new scenes. Good.
Les Chevaliers du Ciel - French jet movie - it is French but good (!) ;) Stunning scenes.
Memphis Belle - a must. Really good.
Midway - some good F4F action and lots of real footage. I like it! But there are loads of scenes with F6Fs, F4Us etc. Not realy present at Midway, were they? :P
Reach for the Sky - Douglas Bader, he is a grand chap!
The Hunters Robert Mitchum flying F-86s in Korea.
The Bridges at Toko Ri - F9Fs in Korea, a really nice movie!
Tora" Tora" Tora! Pearl Harbor, nice flight scenes and exciting. Gotta love the P-40s!

    More to come later...

And then there is Dogights! & War Heroes of the Sky from History Channel (?) Some whinge about those but they are not that bad..

    Add: The Great Waldo Pepper

Brilliant movie staring Robert Redford. Set after WWI, Redford is a brilliant pilot who just missed flying in WWI and is really bummed about it. Scratching out a living barnstorming (lots of cool bi-plane stunt & wing walking sequences), the movie concludes with an Epic dogfight between Redford and the German ace Ernst Kessler (modeled after Ernst Udet Germany's 2nd highest scoring ace of WWI) on a movie set filming a recreation of Kessler's greatest engagement. They take off in aFokker Dr.I and a Sopwith Camel secretly swapping out blanks for live ammo and duke it out for real. Intense cinematography.

The Wind Rises 92013): A look at the life of Jiro Horikoshi, the man who designed Japanese fighter planes during World War II.

Nearsighted from a young age and unable to be a pilot, Horikoshi joins a major Japanese engineering company in 1927 and becomes one of the world's most innovative and accomplished airplane designers. The film chronicles much of his life, depicting key historical events, including the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, the Great Depression, the tuberculosis epidemic and Japan's plunge into war.

An animated Japanese film but there is a very good English dubbed version available.

Aces High (1976): A naive young officer straight from school arrives on the Western front to fight the air war against the Germans. However, the life expectancy of green pilots is not very good.

The Blue Max (1968): A young pilot in the German air force of 1918, disliked as lower-class and unchivalrous, tries ambitiously to earn the medal offered for 20 kills.

Hehe, yeah. Well the post was a reply from Vent on a certain specific subject - hence why. Ditto for Red Tails, we were discussing that very movie.

Had so forgotten about flight of the intruder. Dale Brown, great author. If you thought the movie was good, he has several great books.

    THE RED BARON 2009
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_k-g37OQVs

Europe, 1916. Baron Manfred von Richthofen (MATTHIAS SCHWEIGHÖFER) is, at the age of just 24, the crack pilot of the German aerial combat forces a legend in his own time, a hero at home and a man both feared and respected by the enemy, including Allied Forces Canadian pilot, Captain Roy Brown (JOSEPH FIENNES). Von Richthofen and his fellow officers, Lieutenants Voss (TIL SCHWEIGER), Sternberg (MAXIM MEHMET) and Lehmann (HANNO KOFFLER) see their duels in the sky as tactical, almost sportsmanlike, challenges that, at least at first, obscure their view of the horrors of the battlefields below.
