    Food2 Upgrade or run 2?

    Hi guys. Here are my specs

    CPU: Intel i7 980 @3.33ghz
    GPU: Nvidea Ge Force GTX 580
    RAM: 12g DDR4

    My understanding is that the 580 was really good a couple of years ago. Is it time to upgrade the card or run 2 x 580 in SLI? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance and happy cooking!!

    Upgrade imo. SLI isn't going to improve perf that much.

    580's draw a lot of power so upgrading may be a cheaper option if you haven't got a beast of a psu.

    Which power supply do you have? if you do gtx 580's in SLI, you will have the videocards by them selves, pulling 350-400 watts.

    It will also not beat a card like the GTX 970, thus it is best to simply upgrade to a better card and selling the old one on ebay. Also consider overclocking the CPU.

    12g DDR4 !?

    First, what game are you having trouble with?

    SLI or crossfire still has microstuttering and delay issues unless the drivers and specific game engine is designed to work with each other. Although your fps will be benchmarking high, it will still feel choppy and laggy at times. Some games show no improvement while others can be night and day. It's a gamble.

    Best safe option is to simply upgrade.

    Thanks for the input guys. I had a feeling that it was time to upgrade but, as I am not well versed in this area, I just wanted to be sure. Incidentally I have a 1200 watt ps. Time to go shopping!!

    I recommend one of the new Nvidia 9xx series. Very good performance for its price, and takes much less power than its predecessors. The 960 starts at around $200 while the 980 is $500

    I would save and upgrade to a 980 with 4 GBs of video memory.
