    Default Graphics Card

So I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti and I'm looking for some potential upgrades around $300-400, I'm not good with computers so I don't know what to look for, any ideas or suggestions?

It all depends on what you are looking to do with it and what games you play on a regular basis. Also do you care about eye candy? Do you want to play your games at the highest settings? What's your monitor resolution? Monitor refresh rate? Other system specs? Etc etc. Just an example of what will likely be asked by others. Let us know what you plan on doing and there are plenty of us who will be glad to help you get the best bang for your buck! :D

Make sure your CPU is not bad Buying a very good graphics card can when you have a bad CPU you'll not be able to use this card to it's fullest ability.

I 2nd LongShots suggestion, the gtx970 is a very solid card, and will be a big upgrade for you.

I have a GTX 970 and it works brilliantly. Longshot is correct in saying that you also need a good CPU.
If you can push it out, get a GTX 980 however, if not the GTX 970 works fab.

Just to further add my voice to the above people, it is common to think adding gpu makes it all better but you do need the cpu to back it up. It does go beyond that, a computer is like a chain, it is only as strong as its weakest link (links being; HDD/SSD speeds, Mobo, cpu, gpu, RAM - the rest depends on what your doing).
Like many many others I have a 970 and they are very good cards, just make sure you get a 4gb version.

GTX 970 (4g) are beasts for the money. I'll +1 what everyone else is saying.

I had a GTX 550 TI and went to a GTX 970 4GB SSC. I would recommend either the SSC or FTW. I'm getting 2-3 times the frames I was getting with my old card.

I'd personally go for a 290, It actually has 4gb of vram instead of 3.5gb and 512mb like the 970, That and you can find it slightly cheaper in some places, Fair warning though, It runs quite hot

If you're looking for something even cheaper then you could always go for a 950 or you could always crossfire two Mid range Radeons together (Aslong as it's supported) I honestly prefer AMD GPUS to Nvidias because unless you have a Viewsonic 144hz 1440p monitor that has variable refresh rate and do photography and all that, There's really no reason to use Nvidia cards unless you have ALOT of extra money to burn
