Default Asus Motherboard or CPU too hot?

I just went almost a month without my PC. Thought it was the PSU, ended up being the motherboard golf fingers under the CPU needed resoldering. Lost power to board. Under warranty with Asus. Question: I have 2 GTX 780's with a thermaltake 850 watt PSU. I read that you should have a 1000 watt or higher PSU with those 2 graphic cards. Should I buy a larger PSU or go with a GTX 970. Liquid cooled to the CPU Asus P9X79 LE . Cyberpower build.

If you can get a 970, wait, save a little more money, and go buy a newly released 1070. The 1070 i'm looking at is $420

All set here. Got a GTX 980 @ Best Buy $100 off, on sale. Also got an Asus 144 hz monitor. I should be ok with the 850 watt PSU, with one graphics card.

Ok, so besides the Asus motherboard needing repairing, the CPU/Fan/Liquid cooling pump decided to go. Replaced it with a Cooler Master Fan/Heatsink.
